CEIR: How to Register a Complaint and Block the IMEI Number of Your Lost or Stolen Mobile Phone

0

CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) is an initiative by the Government of India to curb mobile phone theft and fraud. It is a centralized database of IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers of all mobile phones that are sold legally in India. If your mobile phone is lost or stolen, you can use the CEIR portal to block the IMEI number of your phone, so that it cannot be used by anyone else.

To register a complaint or block the IMEI number of your lost/stolen mobile phone on the CEIR portal, you can follow the steps below:

  • Visit the CEIR portal at https://ceir.gov.in/.
  • Click on the "Register Complaint" option on the home page.
  • You will be directed to the "CEIR Complaint Registration Form". Fill in all the required details such as your name, address, contact number, email id, and the details of your lost/stolen mobile phone such as brand, model, IMEI number, etc.
  • Upload a copy of the FIR (First Information Report) that you have filed with the police regarding the loss/theft of your phone.
  • Enter the security code that appears on the screen and click on the "Submit" button.
  • You will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number and email id regarding the registration of your complaint.
  • You can also check the status of your complaint on the CEIR portal by clicking on the "Check Complaint Status" option and entering your complaint reference number.

It is important to note that blocking the IMEI number of your lost/stolen mobile phone on the CEIR portal does not guarantee the recovery of your phone. However, it can prevent the phone from being misused for illegal activities.
